The Secret to Long Lasting Curls
Hair Hacks with Our Head Stylist Chanel
There’s nothing quite like a fresh set of curls. Polished yet effortless, soft yet structured. But keeping that shape intact from morning meetings to evening plans? That’s where technique becomes everything.
We spoke to our Head Stylist Chanel to uncover her expert approach to creating long lasting curls that hold their form, maintain shine, and feel elevated rather than overstyled. Think timeless movement with modern staying power.

1. Layers Are Everything
When it comes to creating curls that last, the foundation starts with your haircut.
“Layers are your best friend,” Chanel explains. “They help curls move naturally and hold their shape, giving you effortless bounce.”
Layered hair reduces weight, allowing curls to spring up rather than drop out. Without layers, curls can feel heavy and fall flat much faster. If you’re chasing that soft, voluminous finish that feels modern and undone, subtle layering is key.
This is especially important for longer hair, where excess weight can pull curls loose within hours. By introducing layers, you’re essentially building structure into your style before you even pick up a styling tool.

2. Small Sections, Big Impact
Precision is everything when it comes to curl definition.
“Work in small sections,” Chanel says. “Styling smaller pieces ensures each curl gets the perfect amount of heat and definition.”
It might take a little more time, but the payoff is worth it. Smaller sections allow heat to distribute evenly through the hair, creating curls that are more uniform and longer lasting. Larger sections may feel quicker, but they often result in inconsistent waves that drop quickly.
Think of it as quality over speed. The more intentional you are during styling, the longer your curls will hold their shape throughout the day.

3. Let Them Cool
This is the step most people rush, and the one that makes the biggest difference.
“Patience pays off,” Chanel shares. “Don’t touch your curls until they’ve fully cooled. This locks in the shape.”
Hair is most malleable when it’s warm. As it cools, the cuticle sets into its new form. Touching, brushing, or pulling curls apart too soon can disrupt this process and cause them to fall flat almost instantly.
If you want extra longevity, you can even pin each curl up to cool before releasing. It’s a backstage trick that delivers that ultra-polished, long wear finish.
